Hassan

Hassan is one of Karnataka’s most historically significant cities, known for the magnificent Hoysala temples, Jain pilgrimage sites, and scenic countryside. With three days in hand, you can comfortably cover not only the main attractions like Belur, Halebidu, and Shravanabelagola, but also lesser-known gems like Nuggehalli, Mosale, and the surrounding scenic spots.

Day 1: Heritage Temples of the Hoysalas

Morning

Chennakesava Temple, Belur (8:00 AM – 10:30 AM)
Begin your trip with this architectural marvel of the Hoysala dynasty. Famous for its intricate carvings and sculptures, this temple is one of the most significant monuments in Karnataka. Spend around 2 to 2.5 hours here.

Mid-Morning

Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu (11:15 AM – 1:15 PM)
Drive to Halebidu (about 16 km from Belur). Explore the Shiva temple covered with detailed mythological carvings from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavata Purana. About 2 hours are sufficient here.

Lunch (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM)

Return to Hassan for a hearty South Indian thali at a local restaurant.

Afternoon

Shettihalli Rosary Church (3:00 PM – 4:30 PM)

About 50 km from Hassan, this lesser-known Hoysala temple is a hidden gem with peaceful surroundings and intricate architecture.

Mosale Twin Temples (2:00 PM – 3:30 PM)
Located about 10 km from Hassan, these identical Hoysala temples dedicated to Nageshwara and Chennakesava are a unique example of symmetry and design.

Spend some time exploring Hassan’s markets. You’ll find handicrafts, silk sarees, and local snacks.
